Thurø Reef

             Thurø Rev
At the south-east tip of Thurø Island is Thurø Reef, a natural treasure that simply must be experienced. Østerskoven wood nearby is fragrant and colourful, especially in spring with the flowering Western Marsh Orchid, Anemones, Corydalis, as well as Ferns, wild Blackberries and many other plants indigenous to dense woodland. The shore of the reef has fine, clear waters for bathing and fishing, as well as steep cliffs and a flat bathing beach with many large, impressive ‘indicator boulders’ from the last Ice Age. The salt-marsh area is grazed by livestock but visitors are permitted to walk within the enclosure. A nearby bird sanctuary includes a Little Tern colony.
