Tranekær Castle and Castle Museum
|Tranekær Castle was founded in the 13th century as a royal castle and fiefdom. In the following centuries the castle increased its landed property so by the 16th century one-third of Langeland’s landholdings belonged to Tranekær Castle. As late as the 19th century, Tranekær Castle was the largest landowner on Langeland, owning more than 60% of Langeland’s landed property.|
The formerly entailed estate is now dissolved.
The Castle Museum, directly opposite Tranekær Castle, tells the entire story about idyllic Tranekær village and castle and the Ahlefeldt-Laurvig Family.
